I am seeking more information about my fathers war record.
He was Captain Kenneth Charles Greaves
He was awarded the Italy Star – I have it in my possession as well as a large number of letters home.
The reference on those was 231 Bty 42nd LAA Regt RA M.E.F.
I don’t have his service number so cannot search the War Office Records

Any information anyone has would be gratefully received

      Richard.

You need to go to http://www.gov.uk and enter ‘how do I obtain a Service Record’.

This will tell you how to get your father’s Service Record from the Army Personnel Centre in Glasgow. You just need a date of birth and a death certificate.

That will give you a full picture of his service.

      Regards

      Richard.

From May-Oct 44, 42 LAA Regt RA were the air defence regiment supporting 1 British Armoured Division in Italy.

      The Regt had three Batteries – 145, 150 & 231.

That would put your father at 1 BR Armd Div;s brutal experience on the Gothic Line at Coriano Ridge in early Sep 44.

      Regards

      Frank
