Hello. I am looking for my grandads war story. As with most men of the time not a lot was spoken about. I have been given his medals and found the italy star amongst them. Trying to find somewhere that could give me more info on his service during the war. Any help would be gratefully received. His name was Eric Crowe and when leaving service he became a professional football player for clacton.
The best place to start is to apply for your grandfather’s service records. They are only available from the MOD in Glasgow and cost 30 pounds-money well spent. If you don’t know your grandfather’s service number, put his FULL date of birth on the form and make sure you ask for the full records. They will tell you which unit and where he served in the war.
