HQ Squadron 6th Armoured Division

My late father Gwyn Bevan Mathews service record shows that he served in HQ Squadron of the 6th Armoured Division from 1941-46. His army number is 7909202. I have been unable to identify the specific unit he was attached to. He was hospitalised in January 1945 in Italy and was mentioned in dispatches. I have his RTR cap badge, an oak leaf emblem, his campaign medals and a US Air Force silver wings badge. He fought in Tunisia, Italy and ended the war in Austria. Any help I can obtain in identifying his unit would be much appreciated.

I would have expected to find him in the HQ Sqn in one of the RTR units in 6 Armd Div except that there were no RTR units in 6 Armd Div.

He could well have been Extra Regimentally Employed – he was doing a job outside an RTR unit.
