The only way to pin him down is to apply to the MoD in Glasgow for his Service Record. This will show exactly when he was enlisted, where he trained, whom he joined and when, where in the world he went and when he was discharged.

Thanks Frank, I have managed to find his Royal Artillery attestation record which has given some information.

There is another pencil entry that looks like 143/152 but doesn’t appear to relate to anything specific.

That would be 50 Searchlight Regiment RA.

Still best to get his Service Record for the fuller picture.
