  My father’s Service and Pay book states “Previous destroyed certified true copy”. Is there any way I can find out what unit he was in for those 27 months.

  You need to get a copy of his Service Record. Go to http://www.gov.uk, find the Search box and type in ‘How do I obtain a Service Record’.
