      Hello

My great uncle died 2 weeks ago and we have been looking for any information about his military records. He served in Egypt and in Italy at mount cassino which I have been lucky to find photos he took at cassino and Napoli. I have been unable to find any information as I don’t have his roll number or know what regiment he was in as there are lots of conflicting facts from other members of the family. If any one has any information or know how I can find out more please let me know his name was Ernie (Ernest Frederick) Allen. He was so loving and a great uncle to all of us just a shame he wouldn’t talk about the war while he was alive.

      Thanks

      Becki.

You really need to apply for his Service Record from the Army Personnel Centre in Glasgow. This will show which units he served in and the dates.

Go to http://www.gov.uk and, in the Search box type ‘Get a copy of military service records’.

When you have that Service Record, get in touch with me through http://www.cassinobattlefields.co.uk and I will happily decipher it for you.

      Regards

      Frank
